I thought someone was going to react this way, ;-). Flame away if you
want. And up front: I like what the guy does. He's at least original
in this sense.
Ok, the guy is traditionally trained. So, he still does DJing. I
don't say that DJing is good or bad. But some of these guys are
fucking boring, mate. It's not all about what you have, it's what you
can do with it.
The guy still earns way too much money for the things he does. It's
the same as in my profession; I'm a database specialist and I can ask
a lot of money for my skills, some amounts that seem ridiculous to me.

BT is one of the TOP electronic musicians, SOUND designer and Producer he is
not a DJ, does anyone read keyboard around here?
Have you heard of a DJ that uses the KYMA, GRM tools, logic, analog synth
with some very original works ranging from classical to hard rock to
techno.....He has a very distinct style and sound, no Dj has a sound of his
own.

He only started DJing not so long ago. Unfortunately, you seem to
have no idea about his work.

hiya,

correct.

rubbish :-)

i can tell the difference between Seb Fontaine, Sasha, John Digweed and
Steve Lawler within the frst few seconds of a track generally.

Have a listen to Northerrn Exposure (Sasha and Digweed) for the
difference in style.
Def check out Steve Lawlers Dark Drums and Dark Drums 2. All DJ's but
very different styles. They make different choices.
Essentially it is 'instrument bigotry' at work...

BT is fab, but why dont we get over the idea that DJ's are not
musicians. Just because it isnt your instruments doesnt mean it isnt
valid.
It is nothing but the continuence of the shit I had at Uni where
classical guitarists/musicians were unwilling to give validity to
rock/modern jazz musos, or jazz musos hating metal, or grunge hating
hiphop.

It is funny, i bet everyone here things they have a fairly open mind,
and catholic taste compared to joe public and yet the bullshit sectarian
attitude still lives on.

<sigh>

indeed.
dj spooky, *christian marclay*, kid koala, dan the automator, x-men
(executioners), dj logic, etc etc etc.....

right.
same as on any instrument, w/the additional conceptual distinctions that are
kinda added & implied by postpostmodernism; some players can be distinguished
by some people sometimes, some not.

<snip>
>Essentially it is 'instrument bigotry' at work...
not so sure about that: seems a matter of personal taste, distinction &
exposure.
(some people don't think that electronic music, in general, is *music*).
*-)

>BT is fab, but why dont we get over the idea that DJ's are not

as usual --- some will, some won't.
and: some are musicians, and some are not.
and, imho, NB:
not all musicians -on *any* instrument- are easily discerned from others.

yeah..... it's a stinky, narrowminded petite monde we musiciens live in,
sometimes.....

that being said, yoonchi is certainly entitled to his opinion, no?
and: opinions tend to be fleeting & plastic.....

Now you DESERVE a flame, :-))). Did you read what I wrote? I'll
repeat what I said, in case you can or will not read:

You see what I wrote there: I acknowledge that he is a musician; he
was trained as one. AND he does DJing. You mean he just started
DJing? Read his bio at btmusic.com and see he was doing these venues
already in 1995.

His work. Can stress again what I said, since it seems you didn't
read what I wrote:
> >And up front: I like what the guy does. He's at least

> > in this sense.

I repeated what I said. Seems like I need to hammer it home before
people understand what you mean. Too much acid maybe, ;-).
I will stress this again: I've got nothing against DJing and DJs. The
only thing I have against is their being paid so much for what they
do.

Those praising BT would do well to simply recommend specific recordings
(preferably albums) of his. I've only heard a couple things (pop and
dance), they seemed pretty bland to me but I do understand they do not
necessarily represent his work. So if there's some consensus among his fans
about what represents his best, that seems like the best defense.

well, personally i congratulate anyone being paid "too much" for
any creative endevour.....i certainly never complain about my
being paid handsomely :)

I think that most of his albums are "representing" his work. (doh~)
^_^: I like his work on his own album rather than OST/pop/etc work.

PianoVerb with the EVP88

2002-01-14 by Murray McDowall

The new resonance type reverb -- PianoVerb is a freebie on the PSP site.

http://www.pspaudioware.com/plugins/piano.html

I've been trying it out with the EVP88 with the PVP VintageWarmer in the
chain -- sounds beautiful -- especially on open, sustaining sorts of
parts and melodies a la Chick Corea's ballad Crystal Silence. The
sustaining tones are so much nicer with the added resonances.

Murray
