According to the MOTU site, the 828 IS Firewire spec. http://www.motu.com/english/motuaudio/828/body.html And, the 896 is also Firewire and just started shipping. http://www.motu.com/english/motuaudio/896/body.html Also, the Metric Halo Mobile i/o is Firewire, as well. http://www.mhlabs.com/home.html AFAIK, these three devices are the only ones shipping at this point in time that use the IEEE1394 or "Firewireô" protocol. The MOTU devices use their own (for lack of a better term) "internal protocol" for converting to/from Firewire, and the Metric Halo device uses Digital Harmony's "internal protocol" in the same way. The Yamaha mLAN started out to be it's own protocol and BECAME Firewire compatible sometime last year I believe, but isn't shipping to the public, yet. As far as I'm concerned, the MLAN card is of the most interest, because it's an affordable solution for those thousands of users who already own a Yamaha mixer like the O1v and/or O2r, and it's my impression the same card will work in both mixers as well as their AW recorder(s). The "advantage" is going straight into the computer without using some "other" interface for either audio OR MIDI if you already own the mixer, or in your case, the AW. I've been using an O1v for about a year to get everything into Logic Audio, even using the S/PDIF digital between a Roland VS and the Yamaha to get the VS tracks into Logic Audio, but I'm stuck with doing two at a time with no PCI slots left for an additional audio card. My MIDI interface goes into the printer port, and requires my moving a cable to use the printer, and back for MIDI. The mLAN card is THE perfect solution... So, the original question's answer is then of course, "no, not yet." :) Regards, ...z It's a thankless job, but I have lots of Karma to burn off... -- L.G. "Zeek" Duff WHAT!Productions!
