The absolutley best MP3 encoder I have come across yet is dbpoweramp
(www.dbpoweramp.com). Free, conventient and offering all required options
(comes with Blade and Lame as its codecs).
It's for Windows only.

Hi Sascha,
  I've downloaded the app , haven't burnt ,ripped or encoded anything from
it yet but I like the popups in explorer  telling you about your audio files
. I was wondering if you are a win9x user and if you installed the system
tweaks recommended and also whether you know how neccesary they are . I
couldn't find anything in faq's saying you gotta do it and "system tweaks"
sounds a little bit ominous when everything else is working . Did I get my
quoting style copacetic ?:-))
