Humor, PDFs, Cracks, OT, Traffic etc etc etc...

Well, I'm CCing this to the L-OT as well as this will most likely be my only
words about this directly to the LUG, if you feel like responding, maybe do
it there.

First of: This is a list with now somewhat between 4000 and 4500 members and
still growing as it seems. IMO that's quite a big list for a certain, kinda
limited subject.
So people FUCKEN HAVE TO ACCEPT THE GENERAL RULES OF NETIQUETTE!!! This is
VERY important, elsewise we will see many people leave the list or not
responding any longer at all! For those of you who aren't here for a long
time: There were some really knowledgable folks subscribed that quitted just
because of this!

About the "humor/interview/only-spanish" thread: Personally I seem to know
from Phil's further postings to this list that he has some kinda british
humor (well, he IS british I guess...) and I really don't give a damn.
Exchange "spanish" with "german" and you would even see me laugh (ahh...
Logic is a german product, so we can't be that bad, can we? OT note: This
reminds me of some posting on the VST list a while ago, something like
"Steinberg being the german revenge for the lost WWII"...).
OTOH I can understand that people (especially those who where involved in
some racism issues more or less directly or have a different feeling towards
their cultural identity) *might* feel offended. But after all we're just
humans and you gotta know someone a bit - at least kinda - to see how
serious he/she is about some comments (just as in real life). Of course this
is difficult to achieve on a mailing list.
Further some people sometimes to me seem to be quite some arrogant bunch of
dudes - but hey, as long as they need to know something about Logic or
answer some of my questions or give useful tips, I just respect them. For me
the same is true for any kind of weird humor.

About topics that were covered OVER AND OVER again, such as the (useless)
"PDF" or the (even more useless) "Crack vs. legit - Dongle makes no sense"
discussions:
On the VST list I once followed a HUGE thread where people were complaing
about the manual which only was available in PDF form - so, you want it all?
Go get a scanner and scan away! VST users could get a printer instead.
For me the printed manual is perfect and it's JUST CLEAR that there will be
no PDF for obvious reasons - and actually Emagic did a clever decision on
that one as MANY people are complaining that Logic is too difficult too
learn. It defenitely isn't, once you had a look into the manual. I learned
the basics in less then 3 days and I'm no genius (or maybe I am?). So, not
having a Logic PDF apparently keeps quite some crack users away (just look
at the obvious questions on the LUG - I mean, spending lotsa money for
something like Logic would certainly engage you to spend at least 2-3 hours
with a manual, right? Some people obviously didn't have the chance to do
so).
Then about using cracked versions: It's illegal!
I know there are some strong points that crack users might bring in, there
also are some strong points against cracks (I won't comment on any of them
here) but the bottom line remains the same: It's illegal and one must be a
GODDAMNED IDIOT to subscribe to a mailing list asking questions IMMEDIATELY
outing the person as a crack user (I could tell you the names/mailadresses
of at least 20-30 people almost instantly) such as "how do I access a MIDI
port?" or so. Well, maybe he/she really isn't able to find that out after 2
minutes of looking into the manual, but then one certainly shouldn't even
try to work with a program such as Logic but get a Fostex 4-Track instead
(serious offers for mine are welcome, serves excellent as a doorstop as
well).
And again: Emagic employees stated it more than once that the dongle and the
printed manual (without any PDF) will remain. End of discussion I'd say.

Finally, about traffic on this list: I REALLY like some (especially humorous
ones or those of general technical interest - btw, big thanks to Marvin
Humphrey, f-erenc szabo and those people being involved into the "backing
choire" and "accoustic guitar" threads at this place, I saved quite some of
your mails) OT postings every now and then, but there were some OT threads
that really cluttered up this list too much.
I allready thought of unsubscribing because people simply behaved too
uncivilized.
I mean, if Joeri allready is jumping in with a "please stop this thread",
why do people continue - and not even continue but extend the thread? Go to
the L-OT list if you need to discuss it any further! Read about netiquette!
Do something but DON'T behave like this!

Ciao,
Sascha
