Hi ya,

OK, I want to hire a digital camcorder (which I can) and connect it to my Mac
or PC and add music to the film. Sounds simple but I know it isn't. But I
can do it.

Does any one know of a software that is very good. I have heard of Final Cut
Pro (expensive but is it worth it)?

Debbie :-)

Yes you can do it.
Depends on what you use.

Sonic Foundry's Vegas Video.
Simple as drag and drop. (As long as you've got the right hardware).
There's also Adobe's Premiere. Used both and prefer Vegas. Premiere was way
more fussy to use.

Don't know.
Not used that one.

I am getting Final Cut Pro next week.

Does any one use this software and can give me some reviews on it please.

Sonic Foundry's Vegas Video- Not heard of this one. What does it offer
please? Or do you know the web address for it please?

Adobe's Premiere. Also heard to do as well that this one is abit harder to
learn as I want to do this project in 8 weeks.

Both products have free download trials available. There are also, on each
site, some free tutorials to help people get up to speed and see what they
are like. You could try those.

Have fun.

I use FCP in a professional context every day. What do you want to know?
If you just need to capture edited footage from DV into your MAC and sync it
up in Logic you could capture over firewire at DV resolution and recompress
from within FCP to a size that Logic can handle. You could also use Media
Cleaner to recompress the video. This would give you more options and
presets.
After that the options of what you might want to to get very big, no matter
what software or platform you're using.

Anything else?

P.S.
Is anyone actually using Final Cut Pro do capture footage for Logic? What
have you discovered regarding sizes and data rates?

um - if you have a Mac why not try iMovie?

I have done basic editing in this and it is quite acceptable - just
don't try anything too fancy.

If your editing needs are more sophisticated final cut is the answer.

done stuff in Premiere - FCP is much better.

I capture clips in FCP for scoring within Logic - afaik it is
straight DV - no recompress or data limiting.

works better than iMovie - FCP puts the clip in a QT wrapper which
iMovie does not - this takes less cpu load when using the clip in
Logic.
