dear group,
the vast amount of this speculation ---based on the coming changes at
emagic--- seem overly wound-up to me..... as most of it is still based upon
*speculation*.
granted, maybe i can breathe a bit easier than some of you, as my *primary*
system is apple --- i only use the pc-system extremely rarely, and neither
handily nor happily.
but:
to the pc-users:
1) i find it difficult to believe that emagic will completely abandon your
already-purchased products; this is the same company that's offered you
continuous free updates, whenever possible, for the past xx-years, as often
and as *best* they've been able.
2) i do not believe that the products that you've purchased will stop
working, altogether, at midnight on 30th september 2002.
(it seems that it's only in the sw-industry do people feel they have a right
to own the *future* product, after they've paid for a previous one; i was
really pissed-off when audi re-vamped the tt-coupe w/o upgrading my older
one.....)
and, it follows that
3) there is no material discontinuance of the **useage-value** of what you've
already bought.
4) when you bought the product, you did not buy the company..... nor the
intentions of the people who own & manage it.

me, i'll simply use the product that *works* for me, regardless of
'market-share': i mean, why would i give a f**k about market-share, when LAMP
does (most of) what i need, and emagic has been such a supportive company?

>I have been acquired by a company that is not focused on our industry.
hello? uhhhhh.....
OSX: core-audio? doug wyatt? the super-collider guy? avid? FCP? protools?
what percentage of hard-core commercial studios are using PC-based systems?
i work in quite a few and varied environments ---studio, and post--- and i've
certainly yet to see MicroSoft's 'focus' on our industry: audio and
audio/visual.....

situation normal.
all god's children have opinions.
all god's children make decisions.
so?

while that may somehow come to pass, for one to actually help instigate
logic's demise precisely because it is what-one-fears is ---to me--- most
ridiculous, and..... increasingly seems to be the staggeringly blundering &
myopic power of internet-gossip and it's ability to foster multiphonic
quasi-facts.
oops..... i ranted, too.
