I have been reading these types of responses all day. My PC is loaded
with PC only software, plugins, and PC only audio interfaces. I am sure
Sonic Foundry is working on a whole series of Mac software just for me as we
speak. I am glad that your converters are cross platform. Mine are not.
Sell my PC because of one program? Not likely or realistic. Its
frustrating to have a stable system, and realize that its going in the trash
in the next couple of years.

Its difficult enough to get programs integrated in one box, now I'm supposed
integrate different systems? I know its possible, but ...

Spending $2500+ and using two different OS's or spending $600 and learning a
program from scratch; I'm annoyed with both options. I am also annoyed
with the $150 I just flushed on the upgrade. We all know it takes years and
several releases for Emagic to work out the bugs and give the advertised
features to the user. I upgraded expecting this to work itself out. Now I
know that I will have an "unfinished" version.

I am also tired of reading about people who are "making decisions based on
platform, not on the tool". The computer is the tool. Logic is part of
the mix. The "just switch to a Mac" people are forgetting that there's a
whole lot more in the (tool) box than just Logic Audio.

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<,
Calm down. Your system works fine now. So use it. Later when you want to
upgrade you can spend $1200 for a clearance of the entry level Powermac
tower
and sell you system used - and probably only be out a few hundred. My AMIII
is cross platform and my converters (external Apogee) have nothing to do
with
either platform.

I think what you have to understand is the way that some of us approach this
(and not to imply that one way is better than another). For me, I built a
computer around Logic, instead of adding it to the tools I was already using.

I first decided to buy Logic as the focus of my studio and buy hardware that
would best support it. Thus I wanted the hardware that would be most
supported and in the case of Logic was Mac. I realize not everyone can afford
to work this way and to those I sympathize. However there are many people
who's decisions are based only on the fact that the immediate purchase is
cheaper. These are often those (but by no means always!) who's first
response is 'well I will just go to cubase'. While I can't blame the hobbiest
who can't financially afford any other way, I don't sympathize with those who
were just being cheap. Who falls into which category, I don't know and
wouldn't fathom trying to waste time determining.

My heart goes out to those who truley have been screwed and I just hope that
OS X for x86 will come true. so that money spend on hardware won't go to
waste.

It's really about your most important tool. Is it Logic, or the others? If not
Logic, then Cubase would probably make a fine alternative I imagine.

PS - Hope this didnt come across with a negative vibe!

nobody likes surprises - least of all unexpected ones

I have sympathy with your position - and some hope that Emagic will
try to deal fairly with you.

But I cannot see how Apple will in any event reverse itself on this -
it just wouldn't make sense. They want a solid audio app for OSX -
they went out and bought it. Period.

So - better get over to Steinberg while they are offering their deal
- its the cheapest way to keep your investment going. Sounds harsh -
but its reality.

Buy the next-to-the-latest model on clearance from maczone for $1200 and
sell your rig for $800 - and you you're only out $400 (you keep the same
monitors, audio card, firewire drives, etc.)

Thats not necessarily true - 5.0 was supposed to be out last September! They
delayed to get it right.
