LOL...Try reversing that question...like:

Do Emacs have OSX?

Or to pose the question correctly:

Do Emacs have OSX installed?

Guess what the answer is...

Yes, they DO?

ALL NEW MACS HAVE OSX PRE-INSTALLED. And the option for 9 is left up to the
consumer, that is, if you don't want to run in Classic.

Here...this is link to all the info you need to educate yourself with
regards to Macintosh.

Oh hum, when you pose questions like the one above, I do think you are
Sadist rather than a Sadus.

He, he, he.

Umm... I think the question was referring to Emacs, the text editor...

BTW what is an Emac? Is that a new Apple machine?

Yes, I was referring to the text editor, not an "eMac" computer from Apple.
Sorry, I forgot about eMacs, I didn't realize the question was a little
vague.

I like the code coloring of Emacs, as well as how you can hit tab no matter
where you are on a line and it indents the code properly. I've never really
used vi that much... can it do that? :-)

Jeremy

Are you referring to XEmacs and GnuEmacs. Emac was dropped a while back ago
and is now being referred to as XEmacs

Yes...it is called the "Education Mac", but is referred to as the eMac. It
essentially is an older iMac with a slight twist in design.

Check it out:
http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore

It is designed and priced for the education market.

Alexis

If Emacs is not included with OS X, I am sure you can download and compile
it on OS X since it is BSD compatible. I don't know for sure, but this is
my best guess. Why not just use vi? ;-)

No one here knows? Please don't make me leave the confines of my
music lists to find this out! ;-) Colin?

have you looked?

My message was asking if vi had a couple features I like that emacs
has... I didn't need more info about emacs itself.. but thanks for
the thought. Nevermind I guess.

There is a version of vi called vim that can do nice code coloring, and
has some other nice features. It won't do the autoindent trick, I think.

However, if you like emacs you will probably not like vi, since vi is a
modal editor (you can't just type text at the cursor, you have to enter
insert or append mode, etc.). That said, emacs is IMHO much worse
for RSI problems, and the keycommands are hard to remember. I
hate using vi, but I have to say that after about 6 years not using it, my
muscles still remember the keycommands, and it is VERY fast to work
with. YMMV.
