I agree! Let's keep it interesting please!

Sorry for not stepping in sooner (I just noticed it became a huge thread).
Reason I didn't say anything: I was not online. And now the funny part which is
highly related to this thread: reason for me not being online: I needed two
days to get my new PC installed! :-)

Before I see all Mac users doing a "Mexican wave" :-)), let me add that my
hardware was faulty. I'm usually quite good with computers, but it was a silly
problem which I couldn't have found without replacing part by part: it was the
cable that connects the cooler with the mainboard that was broken and
apparently that needs to work to get the computer to boot (it measures the
RPM). So, to find that tiny but annoying problem, I needed one day. (the
computer shop was closed, that's why :). Then I got this new cooler and started
to install again. The next problem was my Matrox G450. For some reason or the
other, it crashed Win98 (but worked perfectly fine with Win2k). After searching
for some time, I found that it was the "busmastering" setting which had to be
OFF in order to make it work on Win98. Then I installed Logic and it didn't
work either (haven't fixed that yet, but I think it's because I installed
DirectX8: I can see it stops when starting DirectX). In Win2k, things went a
bit easier. :-)
All in all, I must say that computers are great IF you're familiar with their
hardware/software or IF you have a nicely pre-installed system (or a standard
system out of the box). I've got quite an exotic setup and it takes some time
to set it up correctly. The good thing though: it's now rock solid, works like
a charm and is VERY fast (from Celeron 500 to P3 1000Mhz is a major
improvement). I'll now try to get Logic to work and then I'll do some serious
testing on its performance. :-)

I think it would be great if we could continue this discussion on the OT list.

Bye,
Joeri
