good pre-amp

good pre-amp

2005-05-07 by Remco Muntz

Hi,
I'm using a Neumann TLM-103 with an MindPrint Envoice, which is ok,
but I'd like to upgrade to a pre-amp more on the level of the Neumann.
I've been doing quite a bit of searching and two stand out, right now.
The first one is the Sebatron VMP-1000e (http://www.sebatron.com) and
the other the TAB Funkenwerk V78 (http://www.tab-funkenwerk.com). I
only need one channel, not necessarily compression. Does any of you
know these and maybe in combination with the Neumann? Maybe any other
suggestions. Thanks.

Remco,

I would get rid of the TLM 103 too if I were you. I have always found
it to be a harsh microphone. Moreover you could sell it for a good
price since they are used quite a lot. As far as preamps go I suggest
you browse on Gearslutz. Heaps of suggestions and comparisons there.

Bob.

I don't understand the negative reactions about the TLM103. I think
it's a wonderful sounding mic. I've worked with lots of very expensive
Neumann and AKG mics, so it's not that I haven't heard anything yet.
Also there is a nice interview with Al Schmitt (not exactly an amateur)
who's very enthousiastic about the TLM103 and uses it among his other
top-model mics. So, I guess it's a matter of taste. Anyway, I've
searched the great Gearslutz-forum and came up with the TAB Funkenwerk
V78 (although no DI), the Sebatron VMP-1000, the Demeter HXM-1 and the
Speck MicPro 5.0. It's hard to decide.
Thanks for the info.

Environment/Proteus 2000/Phatt rom card

2005-05-10 by Phil hoyte

Hello there guys
I wondered if someone could help me with what is actually quite a simple
problem that has stumped me. I have logic express 7, MOTU midi express 128
and A recent EBAY purchase of a proteus 2000 with the purephatt expansion
card fitted.
Now the problem is I can only seem to get 16 midi channels in Logic instead
of the 32 on the proteus. I seem to have tried every permatation available
but with no luck. I'm not sure if it's a Environment or A Proteus problem
more than likely its down to my own stupidity. If I assign both ROMs to port
6 which is where the 1st set of midi ins & outs are I can get sounds from
both ROMs but with the 16 midi channel limit if I assign the Phatt ROM to
port 7 on the MOTU wich is where its physically attached I get midi
information in via the transport window but no sound. I've tried the MSB/LSB
prog changes route but still hit the 16 midi channel problem.
I've set the the Proteus up in multi mode assiging midi A to composer ROM
and midi B to pure Phatt and I cant think of anything else to do, so any
help would be very greatly received.
Thanks
Phil
