TLM 103 harsh???? not on my kik drum, it sounds amazing. I like it on background vocals, or any vocal I don't want to have to add high end to. also amazing on upright bass or a dark sounding acoustic guitar. every mic has it's purpose if you use it instead of over eq-ing everything. for the TLM 103 i would go with a squishy pre if you want a good vocal sound.
