Sound Card Problem !!

Sound Card Problem !!

1999-12-23 by A.L

After over one year of excellent service my audiowerk 8
sound
card fell asleep on the job . I tried everything i could but
had
no luck. I had to pull out the card and put it in another
slot. It woke up on the next reboot but WIN 98 put it on the
same IRQ as my video card . They are now sharing IRQ 11 . I
am having all kinds of crashes .The problem is when I go to
change the IRQ in the systems properties / device manager
window ,I am told THIS RESOURCE SETTING CANNOT BE MODIFIED.
The same is said for the video card. Before this happened
the sound card was on IRQ 10 . What do i do now ? Can i
change this setting ? Any help is appreciated . Thanks AL
 Thanks AL

I don't know... maybe you could change the PCI slot? Put the AW8 in another
slot? Don't know though...

There are two devices which can set up PNP devices : The OS ( windows in
your case ) or the BIOS

Which devices controls the PNP is YOU ( ;-P ) .

Your bios has an option somewhere which read : PNP aware OS

This is a "switch" with with you select if the BIOS or the OS determines
what is what in PNP

TRy toggling that softswitch in the opposite state : it can be that the
BIOS / or the OS does a better job

From your remarks I think You have it on PNP OS , switch to BIOS

Check what happens :

Next try setting manual in the BIOS opposite to auto

anyhow : try this first, and tell as detailed as possible what you see :
imagine we need your eyes in order to assist.

Happy day/night (do not ignore your friend

regards

Frank
