Did you mean pin 14 (p0.1)? I'm pretty sure that's the pin (as well as DBGSEL) that need to be pulled low. I don't think P0.14 pin 44 - is used for flash programming. Assuming that's correct, I can't imagine why you can't connect with the flash isp - if you can connect with hyperterminal using the same cable. It should work. We had trouble early on, but it was because our part was responding with '?Synchronize' - the extra '?' was causing trouble. (I think we were using a very old part and it was a 2105).
