If you run with Leon's suggestion this is not an issue. Most of the manufacturers have drag tips & with a bit of practice these make .5mm QFP's a doddle. There is a video on the net somewhere, google should find it. The other good suggestion was the bino microscope. With these two smd is a non-issue.
