Nobody said anything about this being a production stragegy.  The
original poster was looking at recovery options.

The bootloader in the parts out in the field do not change on their own.

If you do not know what you are doing, you deserve what you get.  One
patches blindly only when one does not know what one is doing.

If one knows what one is doing, then this approach is a recovery
strategy.  I have seen a number of cases being reported here.
