John,

the answer is simple, unreliable data :-( A new device will probably 
not show any proplems but over time data retention will get worse and 
you could simply loose data. Could work for quite a while but 
absolutely not recommended (and not specified).

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
