Generally, what ever is appropriate to the processor.  Presumably since you 
are asking here it would be ARM :)

A quick google on Gnu AS documentation leads to this

The ARM Architecture Reference Manual is a good overview of the instruction 
set.  Note that the core version and the chip numbering scheme are not 
related which is a source of confusion.  ARM probably should have used 
numbers for one and letters for the other, live and learn.
