www.newmicros.com has the nifty little Tini2106, Tini2136 and Tini2138 Arm(tm) units with a Phillips ARM MCU on a 24 pin .100" board which is about 1" square in size. Very easy to plug into a breadboard. it also has LED's built in and it's own voltage regulators, so it is easy to inferface to. Hooking up a JTAG programmer is easy too.
Only $29.00 each, cheaper by the dozen.
If you need more I/O they have the small Plug-a-Arm boards too.
