OT: USB Host peripheral

OT: USB Host peripheral

2005-12-23 by Joel Winarske

Prior to grilling my distributors:

Does anyone have any experience with a suitable low-cost USB Host peripheral
with the LPC21xx series?

Or even perhaps a low-cost Flash based ARM7 MCU that implements USB OTG?

I solely need to support thumb drives for data logging. I've already seen
this: http://www.ghielectronics.com/

Thanks,
Joel

I should point out the USBwiz from http://www.ghielectronics.com uses a
Phillips ISP1160 host, which uses 22 I/O. Perhaps someone knows of a host
that uses less I/O?

Take a look at Cypress SL811HS, which uses an 8-bit data interface.
I have a schematic showing connection to an ARM720T, but I can't
remember where they came from. There is an app note on the Cypress
site on external processor connection.

Thanks Doug!

This looks good, a reasonable match with the LPC213x. At least once they
address the silicon errata.

It sure would make sense if Phillips implemented an OTG controller.

Yes Phillips makes OTG controllers.

Correction: It sure would make sense if Phillips implemented an OTG
controller as a peripheral in an LPC21xx part.

Though not integrated as you want, the ISP1362 OTG is available in
6x6mm BGA, nice and small. One thing I noticed about most embedded
USB devices, they are not high speed, just full speed USB. This is
true of all ARMs with USB I have looked at. I'm planning to use
the ISP1583 to provide 480mb/sec for ATAPI and audio streaming.
This chip can connect directly to ATAPI devices. Has a nice split
bus architure.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
