Re: Don's rhetorics

Re: Don's rhetorics

2006-02-10 by Jayasooriah

Hello,

Normally I try not to respond to rhetorics such as these because they serve
to undermine the poster more than anyone else.

However, it may surprise Don to know that a) I have no hang-ups about where
one comes from; b) I have no interest in politics; c) I do not approve
abuse of freedom; and d) most importantly, I do not think LPC is that bad
device for what it is worth. If I thought it were, I would have moved on
from this forum long ago.

I use the LPC in ways the designers probably did not expect me to: a) I
have my own boot loader; b) I have my own flash library that does not
depend on need for CPU clock frequency at run time -- all it requires is
the crystal frequency to be known at compile time; c) and while I dont like
the awkward decisions Philips made about stealing away use of valuable pins
for its boot loader features, these are non-issues in my case because I do
not use their boot loader.

I know there are people interested in my making the my sources public, and
I have no objections. However I do not want to take on the risks
associated with being accused of commercial exploitation of knowledge at
someone else's expense.

I am happy to publish source formally if I Philips is prepared to open up,
and say, fill in information that makes the my software not only work for
the devices I tested them on, but for the other devices as well.

The last thing I want on my plate right now is to be burdened with having
to fix issues relating to processor variants that I or anyone but the
designers know about, and the designers keeping their mouth shut and watch
others argue and speculate to no end till the cows come home.

I do not wish to engage in debatable experimentation and arguments. Mind
you while those who debate are experts in their own right, we are all not
playing in the same field. We will have our own biases as to what we
accept and what we challenge.

Finally to Don, you have done more damage to yourself with your rhetorics
than you think. I respectfully urge you to consider removing your remarks
that IMHO are totally inappropriate.

Jaya

Jaya:

Does JTAG work with your custom boot loader?
