Starting with ARM chip fun!

Starting with ARM chip fun!

2006-04-24 by Weyert de Boer

Hi

I would like to do some research with working with a ARM chip to make
insteractive installations. My only question what do I need for this? My
idea was to write something similar to a keyboard but then int his chip as
first step. I would expect this is possible... Now I only would like to
access/connect the chip through USB ? Because I am working on a Mac
mainly.

Does anyone know what I should use? I need a ARM4 (2410?) and a starter
kit with usb port. Anyone?

I've never heard of any dev tools that work on a Mac, but maybe
Rowley's CrossWorks might. I don't advise using a Mac for developing
embedded applications because of the poor tool support in general.

Get a board based on the lpc2148 or AT91SAM7S. Both of these are
modern chips and somewhat complex. The Embedded Artists Education
board may be a good place to start.

Well, I thought maybe I could use any tools available for freebsd/linux
:-) Not a real problem of course, I still got my Windows computers.

Looks nice, and even reasonable priced too. Not much outputs available
but I can expand through the USB or RS232 interface. Nice thing, let's
find a dutch distributor for it, and I think I will able to make my own
robot and/or goofy player.
