J-link and U-Link with gnu

Sorry for the dumb question but I'm just getting started with the ARM and haven't had much luck with the wiggler. Can the J-link or U-link be used with a gnu development chain? Is flash based debugging possible with the gnu + J/U-link combination? My current debugging is just loading code with the Philips flash utility and watching what happens--this gets to be quite a drag. TIA
