Could the MIDI  IN jack be assigned a position on the front of the panel
where it could be omitted ?  Or is that section of the front panel needed
for something else?   If there is only one jack on a MIDI to CV panel, my
idea is that is does not necessarily need to have a screen to identify it as
MIDI in.  That is pretty obvious on a MIDI to CV.

So, to please both camps, you could assign a spot on the panel for a MIDI in
jack, but apply no screen to identify it as such.  Those wanting the MIDI
jack at that location would drill and install it there.  Those preferring to
have it enter from the rear would simply not even drill the hole and have a
blank spot on the panel.  Blanks spots are kind of normal on these panels.
