When you say "Control input," you don't mean a control voltage, do you...?

I'm having the same issue.  I send an audio input and a control input into
my ring mod, and well, not much really happens.  Anyone have any suggestions
on how we can get more ring from the ring mod?

A VCA does 2 quadrant multiplication whereas a ring mod does 4 
quadrant multiplication. So they aren't the same thing but they can 
sound similar depending on the inputs.
