Ring Mod... Ring!

Ring Mod... Ring!

2002-02-19 by Matt Hutchison

I'm having the same issue. I send an audio input and a control input into my ring mod, and well, not much really happens. Anyone have any suggestions on how we can get more ring from the ring mod?

A VCA does 2 quadrant multiplication whereas a ring mod does 4
quadrant multiplication. So they aren't the same thing but they can
sound similar depending on the inputs.

When you say "Control input," you don't mean a control voltage, do you...?

An additional note: unlike a VCA, the RM output does not include either of
the 2 input frequencies, only their sum and difference. And this is where
Paul's excellent RM design gives us extra functionality: the UNBAL control
allows one to "bleed" the original Y-IN input into the RM output. Also, you
can also remove the DC offset from either or both inputs by setting the
switches to AC accordingly.

George (wondering what features the 110-replacement RM will have)
