I also vote for 8u and the gate/pulse expander (with 3 pos, center off 
switches ;)

PS. Thats sure a lot of dough in knobs, better warn the wife now ha! I will 
build at least one sequencer and 2 gate pulse generators. Maybe 4 or 5 if 
they can be run at separate clock rates from the main clock source while 
being ribbon cabled to the main sequencer.
