On/Off would be less flexible than On1/Off/On2. Only masters get 
chained together, expanders just get plugged in and always operate. 
As I said, I still have to work the whole thing out. One diff between 
master->master vs. master->slave, is that masters must talk to each 
other if random stage selection and direction control are to work 
across modules.
