Even though several other people have given helpful answers, since I use
both a 110 and an SH-101, I'd thought I'd chime in, even though I haven't
finished my coffee yet.  Yeah, I know it's after 9 AM already -- I think I
might have drank a bit much watching the Forrest-Mosley rubbermatch.

Anyway, it will have an effect, but by using the gate output directly the
110 VCA will simply jump between two different states.

An SH-101 doesn't have an envelope output.

That should work fine.  Keep in mind that the SH-101's D/A converter is
basically just a 4052 mux, so it can't take full advantage of the 300's
legendary precision.

Try using your 800!!  The 800 is very versatile and very x0xbox friendly.
It will work with Roland drum triggers (707, 808, 909) using only the
trigger input, and Roland gates (101, 202, 303) using only the gate input.
Keep in mind that a Roland gate output is either on or off.  It does not
communicate any sort trigger information, and will drop and reset the 800
on each new note no matter what.

Well, if you use the 800 you could use your MIDI controller with a MIDI to
CV converter, and most likely take advantage of both the gate and trigger
inputs.  You could also control the 110 directly by using a CC to play slow
pads, modulate drum loops, etc.
