I used some of these on a project - they are from DGS/Deltron and Mouser has some stock. The nice thing is these mount into a round hole with a keying notch. As you can see in the picture Larry posted, these have a long threaded metal body and a hex nut for mounting. Installing on a thick panel should not be a problem. They look pretty good as they do not have the "football" ears like most panel mount DINs. Part # 164-2522 for black body Part # 16HR655 for nickel body Paul - I definitely think you should order a few to evaluate. The only potential disadvantage is the plastic portion is gray as opposed to black - I think this would look fine though.
