(Similar to the type used for microphones but with 5 pins instead of 3.) 5 pin XLR are normally used for things like RS422 serial data in DMX lighting control systems. Allegedly, some live performers used to replace the 5 pin DIN MIDI jacks on synths with XLR due to the locking action of the XLR connector. However, I think it is best to use the standard DIN type if possible.
