When recording I always record everything on individual tracks, usually in stereo, sometimes when I want a really fat sound I'll record a sound several times and combine them later in the mix. When just fooling around I use the 830 mixers. At present I am using a number of cables I made up special with 20db attenuators built in to drop the output level. Without those the MOTM overdrives my Avalon even with the pads in and the gain all the way down. I am building an output module (stooge panel on order :)) which will have the attenuation built in as well as a master volume and balanced line outputs. As a system grows the need for mixer modules seems to increase exponentially.
