Hmmm.... I have pulled off my tape several times and aside from a very 
small amount of residue from the adhesive there was no damage. The 
adhesive comes off with a small amount of alcohol and the panel looks 
brand new.

There is tape we use at work for labeling console channel strips that 
we change from production to production it also leaves very little 
residue and it cleans with just a small dab of alcohol.

But it is true some stuff (like masking tape!) can never come off!
