This seems to have caused some conversation,

I will explain.....

My Father was an electrical contractor and I helped out
on many occasions.

The convention with electrical wireing in the UK is always
UP = OFF
I can go round my house this evening and all light switches
are off in the up position.

This is entirely academic, there are no complaints, I just
wondered if this was a universal convention and how much
of the globe this encompassed.
