It looks like it is meant to form a pressure fit inside the cutout, but the tabs really extend outside the area of the square cutout. A poor design, IMHO

I designed that clipper (based on a circuit from Electronotes). All it does is to clamp the output at +5V max. The clipper does not impact anything else.
