Hi Tony,
Well, I have ended the auction because I erred when
setting the initial price. Unfortunately, ebay does not make it as easy to
change the initial price as it does to change other attributes of the
auction. I did not realistically think that anyone would buy that for $2k,
and was incorrect in assuming that the price could be lowered as the bid
continued.
I would, however argue against the notion that the
cost from PAiA is comparable to the sales cost. This is clearly not
so. Take a look around the web at any site selling modulars and you will
quickly find that even the simplest of modules are, at a minimum, more costly
than their constituent components. Even the "elusive" BBD chips can be
easily and readily purchased from Digi-Key. In short, the manufacturer of
the product is perpetually making more than significant profits from his or her
sale.
Secondly, the price of my ad in eBay is not a
waste; I now know just a bit more about the world of online bidding than I did
before, and I would label it as fortuitous that this enlightenment occurred
early on in the auction. I wouldnt have actually wanted to leave that up
there for 10 days listed at the price mentioned, after all. I suppose that
it is all just a matter of perspective. Thank you, though, for your
input.
