Slight change of plans/update

Slight change of plans/update

2004-09-17 by Paul Schreiber

Looking at the current kit backlog versus this pile of $11,000 worth of bills to
pay, I have decided to alter my plans slightly in terms of shipping schedule and
the CD ROM manual.

I still plan to do the CD ROM manual set, as this saves me LOTS of money in both
material and shipping (weight). But I need to get stuff out the door NOW. I
can't sit here and spend the 40 hours to get the CD ROM ready until I pay off
these bills.

So, what I'm going to do is start shipping '510s on Monday with a paper manual
that is 95% the same as the CD ROM version. The difference is that I'm leaving
out the exhaustive Theory section, and the audio examples will be up on the
website. The construction section will be 100% intact.

I'm not shipping ALL of the '510s this way, only the first 35 (half of them).
Also, looking at the backlog, here are the kits that will be built up and given
priority in shipping:

101
120
190
300
310
440

What 'priority' means is that if/when I run out of another model # kit, I will
not stop to re-kit. I'll just keep going until I can pay these bills off. Which
should only be 3 weeks. So it's not a major turn of events :) The kits not
listed will STILL BE SHIPPED against the CURRENT STOCK ON HAND.

Does the kit backlog include kits ordered paid with points? (I've
got a 13 month old points-only order).

What about just posting this stuff to your site? Add a password
protected area, if you need to. I don't think people would mind
downloading it, instead of waiting for the CDs, and it would probably
be easy to put together/maintain.

Just a thought.....

I would mind. No cable, no DSL, I am stuck at 26K dial up.

That is a great idea. It would be nice to be able to be able to
drool over some new material besides the catalog.

Larry makes a good point. However, I sure any one of us would be
happy to burn a CD for him and anyone else in need of a copy of the
manual. Let's rock people!

Chub - burner at the ready, postage in hand!

Thanks for the offer. Perhaps leaning on someone else is OK for the short
term as a temporary solution. But, eventually, the CD distribution will be
necessary instead of downloading. Vendors have gotten carried away with
that.

I got Dreamweaver to try to make a better looking website. All help is on
line. PDF is downloadable. I think I could drive there quicker and hand
copy the file (it's that big). But, since I am so HTML stupid, I think I'll
sign up for a class at the local tech college. :-)

Larry (hoping I can get at least DSL to work here on property escaping the
communications boom)
