First Module Testing

First Module Testing

2005-12-17 by David Holt

I just finished building my second module (if you count the 950). It was a 190 uVCA. Here's the problem- since I've only got the two modules, I don't have any way to test my work and see how I did. Are any of you MOTMers in the Dallas / Fort Worth area and willing to help a newbie out? Alternately, does anyone have any clever tips for testing without any other modules?
Thanks-
dave

Well, you could feed the '190 some audio from an external
source (a synth, some recorded music) and first see if the
pots work as described.

If these work, maybe you can test the L/E switch of the
bottom half VCA as well. See if the pot behaves as it
should.

And if you have two external audio sources you could try the
ringmod feature as well.

I admit, tough setup to do a nice test. ;)

Hmm, I now think the L/E switch doesn't affect the behavior
of the pot, so that would be hard to test then.

Yes it does. The initial gain pot on VCA 'B' mixes with the VC input.
So it is affected by the Linear/Exponential switch too.

Although I have little real understanding of what I'm doing, I just
started building too -- up to module #5 or 6. I have a PAiA 9700, so I
can generate CVs to test the 190 with. Were I you, I'd build an LFO
next, this will provide you with a CV that doesn't require any external
gate/trigger/etc.. Then you can listen to the output of your iPod as if
a perfect-sinewave-monkey was playing with the volume control.
