MOTM-450 FFB

2006-09-03 by keithw@cix.co.uk

Have been trying to follow the thread about the 450 being shelved
but have just seen on the website updated 5/06/2006 6 New Modules
including the 450:

MOTM-450 Fixed Filter Bank
$379 kit $499 assembled. Difficulty 5/5
Estimated delivery: Summer 2006.

I must have missed something on the list, whats going on?

cheers

a) it should not be on the website, my mistake. On of my goals the next 2 months
is to revamp the website, add more content and do a general housecleaning.

b) the status is this: if it does come out, which would be next year, it will be
in Frac rack because of the cost of the pots/jacks/knobs have *doubled* since it
was designed. Frac makes more sense.

Argh! Now it's "new design in Frac only"! I think it used to be "MOTM
format first, Frac later with subset functionality". On top of that
whole AudioEngine thing, it feels like the future of large-format
analog synthesis is not good at SynthTech.

I have to go lie down now.

I expect Frac to be 40% of my total sales within 12 months.

Still, that's pretty sad when you can't buy MOTM modules in MOTM
format, from the inventor of the MOTM format. But, I'm hoping for
something better than the 450 when the audio engine comes out, in
MOTM format of course. I don't do frac.

Re: [motm] MOTM-450 FFB

I wonder if anybody would be interested in buying my prototype
on which the MOTM version would have been based.

It's 19" 1U format, with input, output jacks, bypass switch and the
10 potentiometers in a row. It has a very nice Schaffer panel, and
otherwise it's "open frame". Runs from +/-15V, i.e. electrically
MOTM-compatible. Same knobs I've used for my JH-5.
Looks very "valuable" when put into a rack (;->), and would
be considerably more expensive than a series MOTM version
would have been. (Just think of what that Schaeffer panel cost
me, and all the time I've put into this.)

Don't get me wrong: I haven't decided anything, and I'm just
testing the waters. But over the years I've built such a lot of
stuff, and I all love it dearly, but it's getting more and more,
and some of it has to go. So with that talk about the MOTM FFB
not going to happen, I thought maybe someone might be interested
in this.

Let me know - if there's interest, I can make some photos.

Paul

Rather than exclude MOTM-format users on this - would it be possible
to do a compromise and use smaller knobs & pots like used on the UEG
and Tellun's recent module designs?
