Hi, Has anyone had any experience with the Blacet/Wiard 2090 Mini Wave? Is it worth converting it to MOTM-format,if yes, where do i get the frontpanels, brackets and so on? And what about the commercial ROM's,are they still available, and who sells them? PS (just read about the MOTM-maxiwave!!!)

Heh. The MiniWave was the single most popular Stooge panel ever made. I believe there were at least 4 designs before it was all done. It was hotrodded with extra rom boards and voltage controlled rom selection. Look here: http://www.tellun.com/motm/diy/jlh2090cv/JLH-2090CV.html I don't know if parts are currently available. It's not the easiest thing to build, although I did reduce the number of wires by using ribbon cable for the LEDS. You should also check out the instructions and mods on Larry's page. I strongly recommend the EG mod. >Is it worth converting it to MOTM-format,if yes, where do i get the >frontpanels, brackets and so on? It's definitely worth it if you can get the panel and bracket. While I'm fairly sure you can get the bracket from Scott Deyo, I do not know if he sells the panel. http://www.bridechamber.com/ >And what about the commercial ROM's,are they still available, and who >sells them? I have no idea, but if you google and find out that they are no longer available I wouldn't let that deter you. Mine only has the two ROM's that Blacet sold, and it's a very useful and versatile module.

There's also the Modcan series-B blacet/wiard mini-wave which is already in MOTM format. The I/O is setup for lower voltage range. (+/- 5v) Personally I don't find that a big deal. -Larry --- In motm@yahoogroups.com, "nootie1000" <Remi.Van.Bulck@...> wrote:

yes, the Modcan one includes a driver oscillator, too -- and the module is really expensive ($549). unfortunately Blacet no longer sells the basic (ie format neutral) kits, so it's necessary to buy a Frac kit ($189). Schaeffer in Germany (aka Front Panel Express in the US) can make a panel (probably $50ish), and Bridechamber sells suitable brackets (cheap). then you can either reuse the Frac pots somehow or get some Alpha/Bourns/Spectrol etc, and Alcoswitch knobs or equivalent. MOTM can supply those IIRC. sounds like hassle, but the Miniwave is worth it. i have an MOTM format one, i love it to death, and i'm going to have another when my life permits it. hth

So it's more like the photo-negative of MOTM format :) On 2/25/08, Jason Proctor put forth: >unfortunately Blacet no longer sells the basic (ie format neutral) >kits, so it's necessary to buy a Frac kit ($189). I agree it's unfortunate. Not only is there MOTM format, there is also eurorack, dotcom, etc. Which means that anyone else buying a frac kit would not only wind up with a panel they don't need, but possibly pots and jacks as well. That seems like a waste.
