Happy with my second VCO

Happy with my second VCO

2008-07-18 by Koos Fockens

It took me some time before I completed building my second VCO, but it's worth it, and I've
recorded some noodling with my first 2VCO patch. I was particulary impressed with how well
the VCO stays in tune and tracks the 1V/OCt response after calibration (before calibrating
they drifted apart terribly ) but it's rock steady, something most of you probably already
knew, and I had every confidence in, but it's nice to be able to compare with the first VCO,
and have it confirmed. :-)

You can find my noodlings via my webblog, on www.motmsynth.blogspot.com

Cheers :-)

absolutely well worth it. two '300 vcos make beautiful FM tones too--I havent found any others that compare in tonality.

Yes! But wait til you have 3. You won t believe what youy ve been missing... Hmmm - I have 3 now. Do I need 4? Seriously, the 300 design is the best damn vco

Re: Happy with my second VCO

I would but I don't have the space, only a small english house you see :-)
If anything, I will have to add VCO's in the shape of MOTM-310's if anything, otherwise
the synth will require a seperate room or garage :-)
First though, I am going to solder my wavewarper, I've still got a 800 and 490 on order,
and need to build another permanent case for the synth to house it all which will be 3
tiers tall and 19" wide, that's all the space I have at present.

Well, I would consider that reason to add on to your existing dwelling.
Your own "Church Of Synththech". Hey, that's a great band name idea! But
only if it featured Paul's gear, of course.

Heck, I had to move to a new house to fit my growing modular! (Well,
OK, that wasn't the only reason. But it was one of them.) Hmm... Will
I have to move again soon?

I don't think I would get my wife that far for that reason alone... :-)
I would have to find a great home that has all the things she'd like in a new home, and
have a little more space for my hobbies to boot... we'll see, patience is a virtue
sometimes...
Oh yes, 4 Oscillators will no doubt sound nice, although the modules that I mentioned
before, plus a second VCA will be first (I want to be able to make duophonic patches at
some point :-) )

I mentioned to my wife that we need a new addition or I'd have to get rid of some synths.
She suggested both. :-{

Hmm yes, I think that would pretty much sum up my wife's suggestion too :-)

Hi Koos - I was looking at your modular pics on your blogs, and had 2 ideas - 1 - you could possible cut a hole in the back of your cabinet and mount your

Actually, the back is still completely open, so it's easy to shift the power supply to the
back, which is something I will certainly do when I get to that point. :-)
I have a friend that will build me a new case (he's much better with woodwork than myself)
Which will indeed get rid of the rackmount brackets, and it will be 3 tiers tall instead of
the current 2. That will create space for future modules, and when I run out of space, I will
move the supply to the rear and steel the 3U space it currently takes up :-)

Also , currently my synth is slanted, but due to the large footprint this takes up, my new
case will be a 'straight up design' I love the slanted style, but I currently have no space for
that, so indeed, the only way is UP :-)
Thanks for stopping by and your suggestions.
