Excessive-Compulsiveness Check

Excessive-Compulsiveness Check

2000-02-03 by Tkacs, Ken

Does anybody else besides me make sure that the hex nuts on all of their
MOTM jacks orient the same way? I tighten mine until they are "flats up." Am
I alone in this compulsion...?

That's ridiculous! Everybody knows that the correct way is "points up"!

Nyuk nyuk!

Holy S**T Ken. I cannot believe you have your compulsive directive in such
a misguided state. Everyone knows that the most important things are that:

1. The square sides of the jacks are perfectly aligned when looking from
the back.
2. The torque-lbs applied to each hex nut is within 5% to prevent panel
warpage. Your compulsion will lead to huge and quite unacceptable
variations from standard torque. That just won't do !!

(just kiddin' of course)

To the person who wanted to know about my size: No, I am not a large
person. However, I think I am the only one so far to actually torque a
stud out of the back of a MOTM panel. So, if you have ever wondered, " Can
I overtighten this bracket nut?" The answer is YES.

You're right-I do try to align the jacks from behind the panel, too
(although I fudge them a little bit this way and that to make sure the nuts
are straight without cracking the jacks through over-tightening).

As far as torque goes, I'm getting the impression that you are the MOTM
Torque King! ("Torque-a-Mot'm"? Spanish Inquisition pun there somewhere...)
