Alright Paul. Here it is again! And Blacet is in on it this time doing
everything he can. The first colaboration module!!! Make up a front panel
and supply the extra MOTM-certified parts to complete the set-up. I'll take
2 of these special kits just to get the ball rolling! $40 each?

Come on Paul!!!

I need more soldering to do! I am in withdrawl!

Cheers!

I meant a Synthesis Technology manufactured front panel and appropriate
jacks, pots, etc. All the way up to full MOTM spec on the extra parts. If
I do my own front panel, it will either look like shit or cost $300.

John is supplying all of the junk behind the front panel with his price.

Over the lips and through the gums. Watch out stomach, here it comes!

Welcome to the list John (the 300 is a good choice IMHO)! You'll recognize
some people here I'm sure.

While I won't be getting one of these (I already have a DSC), I can attest to
the number of MOTM users who'd like to see some of your modules in a MOTM
format front panel to compliment the MOTM line. Some have already made some
very nice looking panels diy. Me? I'd love to see a Time Machine module in
this format (since I gather Paul won't be offering a BBD module in the "near
future").

Or, see attached Blacet 2040 mixer /processor in MOTM format panel. This
one has the regular Blacet circuit board behind it. Last week I shared a
similar mixer I built up on MOTM proto board because I wanted to change the
circuit significantly.

Follow the attached link and see a detailed explanation of how it was done.
From the main page, go to projects, and the modular synth, and see the
genius behind the cheap and good looking panel. You can start from bare
metal or from nice blanks from Paul.

Excellent lettering job on the MOTM/Blacet Mixer. It even says "Blacet
Research..." on the bottom. Now I'm scared because people will think
this is a standard product!

I sort of encourage people to mount the regular Blacet module in a
cutout in a MOTM type panel and add the 1/4" jacks below. That way you
only have to label the jacks. But, whatever works for you.....

RE: [motm] Blacet Research News

Do you prefer we not do that? We left your name on it out of respect for
your design. You know, it didn't seem proper to put "Ken Tkacs Designs Dark
Star Chaos," for example, on the front panel, just because I drilled some
holes in some metal. So we opted for keeping the naming similar to the
originals.

But I can see now why you might be concerned. How do you prefer we handle
the naming...?

We are still working on a general solution to integrating both diy and
popular non-MOTM format modules such as Blacet, using professionally
silkscreened panels; more news soon!

Well, it is a "standard Blacet product" behind the panel. So, credit where
credit is due. Even my proto board mixer will say Blacet 2040-R for
revised, since much of the circuitry is borrowed from the Blacet design. I
like LEDs, so you cheap op-amp & 2n2222 driver to give a visual indication
of the offset of the output is something I will use again.

Larry and Ken have done great work on their FPs, and Ken's "how to make a
custom MOTM FP" page is very thorough -- I haven't done any MOTM diy stuff
yet (since I have too much MOTM for my already full rack and I want to build
a REAL cabinet when those flat rack rails are ready -- hint). When I do some
diy MOTM stuff, I'm going to follow Ken's directions, though I am interested
in what Moe's got going.

There was recently an offlist discussion about how we might label our
(non)MOTM panels -- how about adding one word: "CUSTOM" in front of Blacet
Research?

Unfortunately I think that Larry and Ken paid a lot more than $40 each to get
their Blacet modules to look MOTM. I'd bet it was closer to $70 (6 pots/knobs
X $7.50 + 6 1/4" jacks X $1.50 + FP + graphics + brackets).

But someone should think about this!

rails idea

2000-06-03 by Paul Wagorn

I've been busy thinking about building a cabinet here, and how the heck the
sides would wourk... ie how do i hide the 3/4" of space where the rails
actually attach to the sides on the case....

how about rails that have a 90 degree bend in them on the last 3/4" so the
sides of the case can come right up flush against the first/last panel and
the rails attach to the inside of the SIDE of the case instead of the front?

that way, the case would look better because the panels would be flush...it
would solve that problem...

I've even been thinking about bending the rails i have, but that might get
me introuble with
you-know-who ;)
