Welcome to the list John! It sounds like you're another old fogy around here.
Many of us are in the late 30s to late 40s age bracket with the remainder
being in the early to mid 20s it seems. A lot of us had been waiting for
quality analog EM instruments since the mid eighties, so what surprising good
fortune to have good people like Paul, John Blacet, and others building such
great kits now along with some others (like Tony Allgood) releasing bare PCBs
which can really round out a good EM system.

Below you mention a published VC Divider circuit -- I'm a big fan of VC
dividers. There is a rumor that MOTM will be releasing a VC Divider module in
a "little while." Is that article available anywhere? Maybe you could
describe aspects of your circuit which might not be found in "typical" VC
dividers in the interest of a better MOTM module -- this is one of the more
useful aspects of this list (well, maybe Paul doesn't think so).

Welcome to the list!
JB

what does this consist of and how much ?Jim

Paul is actually more of a digital (especially DSP) guy than analog. You
would have a hard time telling that here though. Remember that this is NOT
AH! DIGITAL DIGITAL DIGITAL (This is the way to spell it all of you AHers)

Trivia question (newbies only please): Which MOTM module includes a digital
component? (and no fair checking the archives)

Cheers!

Well, DIY is not off-topic here. So feel free to jump in there if you want
to contribute something to augment MOTM.

I highly encourage that behavior. I have done some circuits on the
protoboard and have found it to be loads of fun.

Well, you will find a fair amount of humor here too from a bunch of Stooges.
It is our substitute for the flames that fly around on other lists.

Is this a trick question? Isn't there more than one module? The Sub-Octave
Multiplexer obviously contains binary dividers for the suboctaves and XOR
gates for the the ring modulation. I remember reading that the envelope
generator was a CMOS implementation. Any others?

Welcome to the list.

I bought the Omnirax Pro20 and liked it so much I bought another
one on Friday for my other studio gear. I also did a mod to mine
which I'm really pleased with. I bought eight space rails and mounted
them on the back of the racks. There's not much room, but for a lot
of half depth stuff it works great. On the Pro20 holding my MOTM
gear I can move the 900 to the back side and free up three more spaces
on front. I am also contemplating mounting my Expressionist back there
(I never use the front controls, since I control it from my computer)
and use a blank panel on the front with jacks for the outputs. On the other
Pro20 I mounted my power amp and a few things I always control
from my computer.

The article is in the November 1986 issue of Electronic Musician. I'll try
to post it to a web site soon. The circuit was basically a 4 bit flash A/D
built from a 4 stage comparator, and joined to a 4 stage binary counter for
division by 1 through 16. If I were to redo the circuit today I'd probably
put a binary/trinary prescaler on the input and extend the VC divide through
32. You could do most of that with an A/D and a CPLD.

My first modular (motm)

2000-08-06 by Jeffrey Pontius

Per Paul's request, I'm briefly introducing myself to the motm list as
I've just purchased my first modular (ah system 1 with the 440 filter
instead of the 420 [I already have an ms20], assembled - I know very
little about electronics). My only other experience with modulars is an
ARP 2500 that is here at the Kansas State U. electronic music studio (run
by Hanley Jackson). Paul was kind enough to spend at least an hour and
one-half disussing motm modulars and my purchase - thanks Paul. Looking
forward to adding modules periodically and exploring their capabilities.

Now, I have to order those rails and build that rack cabinet before the
modules start arriving!
