I've been running Cubase AV on my laptop for in-flight sequencing, but I
really need to either get one of the portable Yamaha GM voice modules (MU5)
or just get a QY70 and not even use the laptop.

I used a QY10 long ago and found it less than desirable for composing. Maybe the
QY70 is better but I found that remembering all the right commands and key sequences
to be just too much for the number of times I used it. As far as GM sounds go, the
soundcard in your laptop may be sufficient for quick compositions. Again, sound
quality at 37,000 feet in a noisy aircraft is not always the first concern ;)
