Could someone give me some ideas on the usage of the Sub octave mutiplier (120) ? Also, I have been experimenting with the ring modulator without much success , am I missing something ? Also I have a spare Nuetrik patch bay around, any uses for this in the modular rack ? Thx Jim

hello all, > Could someone give me some ideas on the usage of the Sub octave mutiplier (120) well, one of my favourites is to stick a sine wave from your VCO into input A, set it to CROSS mode, and put a multiple of your gate into the B input - loverley as they say... a bit bored with wimpy old white noise..? why not make a real mess, by sticking thru your #120 in SUB mode... don't expect much from sticking a drum loop through it though... > Also, I have been experimenting with the ring modulator without much success , > am I missing something ? i still have problems with my ring mod, but that's probably because i STILL don't know how it works the MOTM one isn't quite so plug and play as say the moogerfooger, as there's a careful balance of signals to be made (also not having the two VCOs yet doesn't help - hint hint) > Also I have a spare Nuetrik patch bay around, any uses for this in the modular > rack ? a million and one uses for sure - you could use a couple (or in my case, eight) of jacks to make permanent lines to your console, fx etc, and of course you could make a big heap of multiples cheers paul b

> Could someone give me some ideas on the usage of the Sub octave mutiplier >(120) here's a copy of a message I just posted to AH: I made a little diddy on my motm modular just for fun... it makes a cool little demo of what can be done with just 3 or 4 modules. here's the neat part: I use no oscillators or sequencers! it's got 4 parts (all produced my one module) all with 4 different rhythms. here's what I did: motm 440 filter, self oscillating at a very low frequency (cheater oscillator) into the motm 120 suboctave mux (someone was asking for ideas on this I think..). I have an LFO going into the 120, cross modulating the input signal. This creates 4 different rhythms through each of the 4 suboctaves. the only other thing in there is a kick drum & single hihat. all the rest is motm with absolutely no sequencing. The track doesn't really stand on it's own as a song, but makes a pretty cool demo of the motm you can hear it on www.mp3.com/puffboy the track is called (surprisingly enough) "MOTM madness" take care, paul www..mp3.com/puffboy www.puffboy.com

oops,.... sorry everyone - mp3.com hasn't approved it yet - try: www.puffboy.com/motmseq.mp3 paulw ------------------------------------------------------------- Check out www.mp3.com/puffboy for 'MOTM madness' which is a audio signal into 'A' and a LFO into 'B' (CROSS is on) showing little "pseudo-sequencer" sounds. > Also, I have been experimenting with the ring modulator without much success , > am I missing something ? You MUST use giant signals, like 6 to 10V pk-pk. Simply plugging a synth output into it WILL NOT WORK. Use the Effects Send of a mixer to boost external signals. Also, the best results are with one input a Sine or Triangle. Using 2 complex inputs just makes mush. Listen to Charles Stella's demos oa www.synthtech.com/news for ring mod/vocal effects. Paul S.
