For my particular setup, I would say that a panel mount would be more useful than the cord. Here's why:

I hope to eventually put together a dual-keyboard system; I am using Kaysound MIDI controllers through Kenton Pro-2000(s) and will stack one on top of the other in a nice wooden enclosure (separate from the cases containing my MOTM modules). To the left of each keyboard, I plan to leave space for 5U x 5U panel(s). This space would contain various performance control modules, such as joysticks, "panic buttons", small ribbon controllers, etc. (NOTE: I highly recommend the Kaysound Mk-4902 keyboards, if you can find them. They are nice, fairly inexpensive, 4-octave MIDI keyboards that already have a pitch-bender wheel and a modulation wheel built in.)

A joystick module with the inputs and outputs brought out to the front of the panel as Switchcraft jacks would be a nice addition to this performance control space. A joystick on a cord would just be something else I would have to find room for in my setup.

Just my opinion.....your results may vary!
