Dr. Robert Moog to get $115k prize and award..read below
--Burt Bacharach has been named a recipient of the prestigious Polar Music
Prize -- along with composer Karlheinz Stockhausen and Robert Moog, who
invented the Moog synthesizer. Bacharach will collect the prize -- including a
monetary award of $115,000 on May 14 on Stockholm. The award was established
10 years ago by the late Stig Anderson, the manager of the Swedish pop group,
ABBA. Bacharach said he was thrilled to be joining a list of previous Polar
Prize winners that includes Stevie Wonder and jazz great Dizzy Gillespie.
Others on the list include Elton John, Paul McCartney and Ravi Shankar.
Bacharach and his longtime collaborator, lyricist Hal David, composed such
classic American pop tunes as "Do You Know the Way to San Jose, "Raindrops Keep
Fallin' on My Head," "I Say a Little Prayer" and "There's Always Something
There to Remind Me."
