RE: [newmellotrongroup] OT Gentle Giant So Sincere

2012-04-08 by John L Rice

Well, if you consider that a lot of hip good looking "artists" these days
can't even sing or play simple songs very well in a studio, let alone live
on stage, you might give a little more due respect to talented true artists
who do at worst a reasonable job of pulling off difficult and complex music
totally live. Plus, keep the time frame in mind, the GG wasn't filmed last
year, it was in the late 70's.

That said, Gentle Giant's music can be difficult to get used to and
appreciate and the rough edges and poorer sound quality of even the best
live recorded examples are not the best place to introduce noobs to their
music! ;-)

I managed to keep a (mostly) straight face until the camera pulled out
enough to reveal what the guitarist was wearing. Uproarious laughter
ensued.

Even though I found the vocals to be nearly painful, I acknowledge that
there are certainly talented players here, but it's not my cup of tea. More
power to those that do enjoy it.

The opening moments of this actually made me laugh out loud; it completely
reminded me of those 'Shreds' parody videos (check this

this <http://youtu.be/gJ91HMdhupI> if you've never seen them before - the
last one actually is how that type of music sounds to me)
