Yeah-those could very well be some MkII Violins playing random chords in the background. I usually try and listen to them when ever I play that part. ;

As to the bass hum, I would guess it would be the motor, or a synth that is being used along with the 'airflow' (Well-that's what I call it anyway) sound....

They used just the 'airflow' sound again on 'Every Good Boy Deserves Favor' on 'My Song' at the end of the album.

A very interesting question, since it is a ethereal-restfull sound to my ears. :)
