We have never demagged the prototype M4000 in 5 years. It gets turned on  
daily and the tapes are as fresh as the day we installed them. Demagging is  
not something you have to do in years unless you unplug the headblock and  
forget to shortout the audio box socket or have some major malfunction. DON'T 
 PANIC!
